When a permanently installed KNX touch panel in a smart home or commercial building fails after many years, finding a replacement can quickly become a challenge. Many older models could not simply be swapped out: the existing flush-mounted boxes often no longer matched newer devices, or manufacturers had stopped offering compatible successors altogether.
With our PEAKnx replacement solutions, we have steadily expanded our portfolio and now offer replacement kits for manufacturers such as ABB, Gira and a range of older JUNG panels.
However, there had been no replacement option for the JUNG Smart Control 7 and Smart Control 10 – so it was time to close this gap.
In this article, we provide insights into the background and technical challenges behind our latest development: adapters designed to replace the JUNG Smart Control 7 and Smart Control 10.
Where the idea came from
The idea behind the adapters did not emerge from a strategy workshop, but many years ago at the Eltefa trade fair in Stuttgart. There, our Head of Sales noticed that several JUNG panels still had no adequate or long-term replacement solution. That was the moment when the idea first emerged to explore this topic further.
Later discussions with our partners in Austria, Spain and Germany revealed a similar picture: JUNG touch panels were widely used in these markets, but there were hardly any options for directly replacing outdated or defective units.
Around the same time, our development team — encouraged by our Product Manager and our Head of Sales — had begun working on the first replacement kits for Gira. It soon became apparent that with the growing use of KNX systems, more manufacturers, including JUNG, would require modernisation and replacement concepts. Up to that point, upgrades in existing buildings often failed due to structural limitations or the lack of compatible successor models.
This ultimately led to the idea of developing replacement solutions for several manufacturers — including JUNG.
The advantages of our replacement kits at a glance

How development gained momentum
Although the idea for JUNG adapters had existed internally for quite some time there had long been no concrete reason to move forward. This changed in June 2025 during preparatory discussions for the Light + Building trade fair, when an intensified partnership with JUNG was being explored.
- JUNG has for some time been focusing on smaller panel sizes of up to 10 inches.
- There was no dedicated replacement solution for the widely used Smart Control 7 and Smart Control 10.
- Demand for replacements was high — and growing as the panels continued to age.
- PEAKnx products are the perfect complement to JUNG’s current product range.
This was the moment we took the idea off the shelf and began developing adapters for the two Smart Control panels from JUNG.
These JUNG panels can now be replaced
Our aim was to enable a clean, straightforward replacement of both panels using our Control 12 and Control 16, without altering the building structure. The existing flush-mounted box should remain in place without the need for chiselling or additional construction work. To achieve this, our hardware developer designed specialised adapters that allow even decades-old installations to be upgraded both technically and visually in just a few steps. .
Compatibility:
- JUNG Smart Control 7 (SC 7 EBG) -> replaceable with PEAKnx Control 12 orControl 16
- JUNG Smart Control 10 (SC 10 EBG) -> replaceable with PEAKnx Control 16

Thanks to the adapter contained in the replacement set, the Control 12 is quickly installed in the previous flush-mounted box, type SC 7 EBG, without the need for any further chiselling work.

The KNX touch panel Control 16 is the perfect alternative to the Jung Smart Control 7 The modern operating panel can easily display the entire KNX building control system on its generous 15.6-inch Full-HD display.
Control 16 replacement kit:
JUNG Smart Control 10
The Control 16 is the ideal replacement for an old JUNG Smart Control 10. Thanks to its shallow installation depth, it can be mounted almost flush with the wall without requiring a new flush-mounted box.
Two panels, two adapters: the technical challenges
Replacement kits may look simple from the outside. However, as mentioned by our hardware developer, the project presented several very different technical challenges.
Smart Control 10: enough space for electronics – a simple solution
The Smart Control 10 provides sufficient space inside the flush-mounted box for the electronics of the PEAKnx panels.
The solution was therefore a robust adapter plate that attaches directly to the existing flush-mounted box and provides mounting points for the Control 16.
This results in a slim, unobtrusive installation that closely resembles the original recessed mounting.
Smart Control 7: limited space – a more complex construction
The Smart Control 7, however, posed a different challenge: the flush-mounted box offers nowhere near enough space for the required electronics, meaning they must be positioned in front of the wall instead.
The solution consists of two parts:
- A specially shaped adapter plate mounted onto the flush-mounted box
- The PEAKnx surface-mount frame, which attaches to the plate and houses the electronics and panel
This creates a reliable structure that works with both the Control 12 and the Control 16.
The devil is in the detail
As with many hardware developments, the biggest challenges were found in the fine details:
- Mounting points that were slightly misaligned in the first prototypes
- Tolerances of just a few tenths of a millimetre
- Screw heads that initially collided
- Real-world flush-mounted boxes that, depending on the wall structure, were not always installed precisely or had become slightly warped
One of our solutions was to integrate springs that keep the adapter securely in position even before it is screwed in place — especially helpful for system integrators working with older wall openings.
The benefits of PEAKnx panels when replacing JUNG devices

Over the years, replacement solutions for various manufacturers have become an important part of our portfolio — benefiting both system integrators and end users.
JUNG Smart Control panels were installed in large numbers for many years, but reliable modernisation options were scarce.
With the new adapters and replacement kits for the Smart Control 7 and Smart Control 10, we have now closed this gap. The new JUNG adapters not only provide an ideal technical solution for system integrators and customers, but also represent a strategically crucial step for us. In countries such as Spain and Austria, where JUNG panels are particularly widespread, the demand for replacements of ageing Smart Control models is significant.
The JUNG adapters are the result of market observation, concrete customer enquiries, and detailed technical development work. From the initial idea at a trade fair to the finished adapter design, this project shows how technical vision and real market needs can come together to create a robust solution — one that requires no structural modifications and is quick and easy to install. This makes our replacement solutions valuable for system integrators and end users alike.
