As part of an extensive modernisation project, the outdated building automation system at a public swimming pool in Vienna was brought up to date. A U.motion Client Touch panel from Schneider Electric, which had been in use for around ten years with a KNX visualisation, was replaced by our Controlpro KNX touch panel running the YOUVI visualisation software.

Quick KNX system upgrade with a new central building control unit
The new panel is used to visualise and control the lighting and displays various energy and water consumption values. It also provides an overview of relevant measurement data and displays potential faults and error messages. The modernisation was carried out by E-Necker GmbH, a Vienna-based specialist in building automation and KNX planning.
The project was implemented between April 2024 and October 2025 as part of an extensive modernisation and standardisation of the building automation system and swimming pool technology. The ageing 15-inch KNX panel from Schneider Electric was replaced by our 19-inch Controlpro KNX touch panel. Its certified KNX interface, modern hardware and open system architecture made it an ideal choice for the project. Equipped with an Intel quad-core processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 250 GB SSD, the panel provides ample performance for the swimming pool’s extensive visualisation and control tasks.

Thanks to its flush-mounted installation and standardised KNX communication, the new Controlpro could be integrated into the existing infrastructure in the lifeguard’s control room without the need for major structural modifications. It now serves as the central control and monitoring unit.

YOUVI well received as the central visualisation
Our YOUVI visualisation software is used as the central visualisation solution, providing a clear overview of the relevant building technology functions. YOUVI is used to control all of the swimming pool’s DALI lighting via the corresponding switching and dimming actuators, activate lighting scenes and display energy and water consumption values as well as other relevant measurement data. Fault messages from the water treatment system or other technical infrastructure can also be displayed in the visualisation. This gives authorised users a quick overview of the system’s current operating status.
The visualisation was easily created in YOUVI by importing the ETS project structure directly. As no manual configuration was required, this significantly reduced the time needed for setup. The visualisation itself is also simple and intuitive to use, meaning that extensive training is generally not required. The transition was therefore straightforward for the swimming pool staff, with only a short familiarisation period needed. Immediately after installation and the ETS import, they were able to start controlling the lighting and monitoring the systems.
Mario Pascal Necker, Managing Director of E-Necker GmbH, is a system integrator as well as a sworn and court-certified expert. He highlights the ease of integration: “The transition was very straightforward thanks to the open architecture of the KNX-certified PEAKnx system. We have already had positive experiences with the touch panels in numerous complex, multi-trade projects – they are reliable, powerful and integrate very well into existing infrastructures.”

Future-proof solution with scope for expansion
The Controlpro with YOUVI not only provides a clear overview of the swimming pool’s building technology, but also offers a future-proof solution. New parts of the building added during subsequent construction phases that require control can easily be integrated using the existing KNX infrastructure and YOUVI. This allows the system to be expanded gradually as required.
For the system integrator, PEAKnx solutions are therefore set to remain a regular choice for future public-sector projects: “Whenever touch panels are specified for new-build or refurbishment projects, PEAKnx is our preferred choice. The systems offer exactly the level of openness we need for professional KNX projects.”
Conclusion
The swimming pool in Vienna demonstrates how existing control technology can be sustainably upgraded with modern KNX solutions.
Replacing the old Schneider Electric panel with our modern Controlpro marked an important step towards state-of-the-art building automation. The combination of powerful hardware, intuitive YOUVI visualisation and a standardised KNX infrastructure ensures stable and efficient operation. Staff benefit from a clear and user-friendly control interface, while the technical infrastructure is already designed to accommodate future expansion.
The project is a good example of how existing systems in public buildings can be modernised with relatively little effort – an approach that could be of interest to many local authorities operating facilities with ageing building technology.
